In the interests of organisation and helping people’s pages be more easily found, your friendly neighborhood mod team has decided to implement some new and improved tags to help you categorise your pages! Thrilling stuff, I know. Please read below for a full guide to tagging your pages.
- Idol: A performer who sings, raps and/or dances to original music. They almost never play an instrument, but there can be exceptions. Whether or not they actually write/produce their songs doesn't matter.
- DJ: Also known as a disk jockey, a performer who plays pre-recorded music for an audience. Here, this usually refers to club DJs and turntablists.
- Idol group: a group of idols who perform together as a unit.
- Band: A group of people who perform original music, …

The wiki has been stirred by a certain wide-blocked user once again. This person is known by many aliases, including "Aya", "SakuraSorella", and like, a thousand other names or so. They're easily distinguished by their annoying behavior, vandalizing, anime profile photo, obvious usernames, gacha pics, low quality Ibispaint x screenshots containing a very recognizable art style, obviousness, and the ability to create many alt accounts on Fandom. Me and other mods of the wiki have mentioned them in other posts, but now that they decided to return despite an IP block from Wikia, I hope more users of this wiki will acknowledge their agressive childish ways and avoid them easily.

Sorry for the delay! We’re still working on the zine, but it’s coming. But anyway, here are our winners for the Inkidols Wiki Art Competition!
To start, in third place, we have JHV’s lovely piece of Inky Current at the Leaning Tower of Pisa! The expressions of the idols truly show the fact that they’re just having a wonderful time in Italy!
Next up, in second place, we have… Sabani’s art of Kai and Morgan at the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Japan! Idols are somewhat like shrine maidens, delivering Splatfest themes from the fax machine gods, so it’s fitting they’d be at a shrine.
Before we dive into our first place winner, we also have some honorable mentions that we’d like to list here, including: Anik’s artwork of NeoFlow at the Space Need…

A lot of people wanted to learn how to draw in the splatoon style, (Which is pretty easy for me), so I decided I would make a guide!
==Where to start==
Of course I'm no proffesional, since I'm still doing my second attempt, but I suggest you reference official art first. Best if it is a full body and has another item/weapon for practice in both skills. I suggest the official art for Marie's Splatoon 2 outfit or anything close. DON'T REFERENCE THE SPLATFEST ART WITH OFF THE HOOK OR THE SQUID SISTERS. THOSE ARE DIFFERENT STYLES. Although they seem close to the official art, it is not the same style as it.
Images such as these will work best! ^^
Most of the people on this wiki use drawing programs that allow you to import your own brushes, so I…

So, I've seen a lot of idols come (and go,) in this wiki. It's really nice to see so much creativity, but there's something i noticed about something that really made me wonder... "Why has almost no one thought of this before?"
That's Cece, the Animal Crossing equivalent of Callie. The reason I brought this whole blog post up is because of her eyes. The pink eyelashes really made me wonder why almost no one had tried something like that with their idols. I've only seen one idol so far to have any kind of colored eyelashes.
I just wanted to post this to give everyone some ideas. Some people already tried this, but it'd probably work really well with some of the idols on here! As for me, I'm not going to apply these to my idols at the moment…

Hello! I've never made guides for drawing, but since a few people have asked about this i thought id make a guide explaining how i draw in the splatfest team artstyle. Also, this probably wont be very good, i've never done a guide like this before
So, using a brush that resembles the is a kinda important step. Sadly i cant help much with this other than tell you to go look for a brush for the program you use. I use Clip Studio Paint and one of the default brushes (The textured pen) resembles the brush used in the official splatfest art pretty well.
So, before you start drawing i'd recommend you go download one of the official splatfest drawings.
(You can find them all here)
When i do splatfest art i open the official splatfest drawing and us…

Here are a couple of new rules Koi just issued for the wiki:
- From now on, all artwork must be original. Using bases
are fine, as long as you give credit (but your content will not be
featured on the main page for that). Tracing, art theft, unoriginal
edits... are prohibited on the wiki and will result in a block.
It's always better to be original.
- Gacha and dress-up game creations are absolutely forbidden here from now on. It's ok if you made some for future drawing reference or out of fun, but do not use them on the wiki pages directly as "art". Gacha is NOT art, and idols/bands should be presented with their own original artwork. This will result in deletion.
- Criticism is allowed, but it must be constructive and friendly. We want to keep this …

So, earlier, we had a poll for what we should do to celebrate our 100th page on Inkidols Wiki, and based on that, we're doing... An art contest! We decided on a fun and special theme for the contest too!
Draw one of your idol groups in casual clothes taking a picture by a famous human landmark (in our current time, because time paradoxes are all the rage,) such as the Eiffel Tower or Big Ben! The season they're in doesn't matter! I'd recommend doing summer or spring, but do what you want! Here's an example of the Squid Sisters, taking a group selfie by the Eiffel Tower!
All the artwork we get will go into a zine, but the grand prize is the placement of your art in the zine! The top 3 submissions will be featured on the first page, which will hav…

As you can see, Splatoon characters have different names in Japan and America/Europe. Callie and Marie gets changed to Aori and Hotaru... but why? What's the meaning behind that?
Aori and Hotaru are actually names referring to the species they're based on (or is)! Aori-ika means Bigfin Reef Squid, while Hotaru-ika means Firefly Squid. (Even though you can really say that they're all Inklings are squids in general,, it doesn't hurt to make them based on an ancient species.)
Same for Off the Hook. Pearl is Hime Houzuki (Hime-ika, pygmy squid + Daio-Houzukika, colossal squid. This actually refers to an iconic rapper ,Biggie Smalls, and Pearl's small size), while Marina is called Ida (from Idako, webfoot octopus)
Basically, just find the Japanese…Read more >

Currently, I have some urgent personal business to deal with, so I won't be available as much anymore. There has been a rise in intimidating behavior and other chaos at the wiki, and I really need some people who can help me out responsibly. By this, I don't mean becoming a replacement of me, but to help me and Koi moderate this place.
I don't rely on how popular your idols are, or how much opinions we agree with - what matters is how active you are, how you can perform your duties as a mod responsibly, and your interest to do so. I absolutely won't accept mod abuse (using mod abilities to advantage yourself). DM me on Discord or talk through my message wall if you are inter…Read more >

Ok, so, I’m not trying to be pointing fingers, so I won’t mention the idol group’s name, but an idol group on this wiki is doing some things that aren’t very rule-following. For example, (ok this is probably going to give away who the idols group is) they used a song from youtube for one of their songs. This is not what you do when making idols. You have to make an original song. Not only that, but their splatfest art is so similar to another idols’, that I have a feeling it’s been traced. You can’t trace. Your idols have to be original. There are no shortcuts when making idols. I don’t want to be rude, and this blog post was not intended to be mean, but I feel like we need to address this. But because I’m not an admin, I have a feeling I’…Read more >

DISCLAIMER: I AM IN NO WAY DOING THIS OUT OF ILL WILL AND MORE OUT OF LOVE FOR THE CHARACTER(S). I ALSO DO NOT CONSIDERING MYSELF TO BE "FIXING" THE CHARACTER(S), EITHER!
Project Splatoon 3. Love it or hate, there's no denying Squeaky's take on a new Splatoon installment seemed to pretty much take the fandom by storm. There's no doubt it has some very neat and interesting aspects to it, but that's not to say it's 100% perfect. Though i'm not here to be salty like someone else here, i'm just here to have fun and take a look into the design of one of the characters and see what I can do to make it work just a little better in the setting of Splatoon.

So, if you're like me, and you love making idol groups, you'll probably run into this probably a lot. "What should my idol's backstory be?" Well, here, I'm going to help with that.
Brainstorm ideas! The two backstories can be drastically different, (like in Off the Hook,) or even related directly to each other, like the Squid Sisters! The two stories should fit together like two puzzle pieces too. The characters need not necessarily have grown up together, but at one point or another their life stories should converge.
"Marina was born into "the oppression of Octarian society" and began to be trained as a combat engineer from a very early age. She graduated from elementary training at the age of 9 after skipping multiple grades and for the …

This is my tutorial on how to make Inkling/Octoling-like voice in Audacity. There are some on Youtube, but most of them require expensive paid audio programs or... weird methods like talking into a fan or drown in a pool. My tutorial, however, only need Audacity, which is a free open source program, but the settings are more limited. After playing around with the filters, I decided to come up with a tutorial on how to make your voice imitate the voice effect that Splatoon vocals have, including both singing and speech.
If you own a Macbook and not Windows, I would recommend this . If you use mobile, however, I don't really recommend that since computers have better programs, but some apps might have it, who knows?
Step 1- Get Audacity if you…

Here's a useful link to all the canon bands/ musicians!
1. Don't make them look too humanoid.
Splatoon musicians are very diverse, and there are so many sea creatures you can choose from. However, the sea creatures have their own special characteristics that can get ruined if they look too humanoid. Well, Inklings, Octolings, and a few more species are exceptions, sure, but most Splatoon bands look semi-humanoid only. If you're going to add a Shrimp character, don't make them a Shrimpling. Humanoid traits are necessary but don't overdo it to the point where they look like an Inkling/Octoling with another creature's hair (but Hightide Era rocked that one though, I'll say they were an exception.) Experiment with unusual skin colors, body featu…Read more >
Here comes the fun part of the visual design: physical traits and details! This is way easier than designing clothing, however it doesn't mean you can just design them like a random crack generator on Shindanmaker. First off, you have to choose their species.
There are a whole selection of humanoids and non-humanoids in Splatoon that you can choose. The most popular choices are Inklings and Octolings, however, you can also choose another species or even make up one! If you want something more than Inklings and Octolings (or humanoid), just go here if you want a list of known species (other than Inklings and Octolings too, of course), or visit Fanlings wiki for fanmade reference.
Once you have chosen your idols' species, make it specific. If …Read more >
Idol clothing is... well, diverse. You can literally get them any type of clothing that fits their theme, body and species. However, have you ever wondered why does the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook's idol clothing is so phenomenal and literally genius character design? Welp, I'm gonna explain a few things.
First off, patterns.
Let's start off with the basic rules. When making idols, you have to make sure that they aren't clones of each other (unless they're twins, but still please make them different). By diving in and investigating patterns between the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook, these are the key rules (not necessarily) of making idols (if you want them to have a more cannon look and taste, yes)
- Dress-short rule. If your idols have th…
Have you ever tried making Splatoon idols and then trying to think of a good name? Think that generic and boring English names don't fit? Well, here's the advice.
When naming your idol duos, (if you want it to be punny and close to canon) keep in mind that the pair of names should be connected to each other, even as a pun!
For example, Callie + Marie = Calamari (a general term for squid as food)
Or it can be coincidental??? Pearl + Marina (a synonym for Harbor) = Pearl Harbor.
You can take a maritime term/marine biology term/ the name of a place located in the ocean/ a seafood dish that is related to the idols' species/ any term related to their theme(s), and split them into half, then convert it into something better if desired. Without the p…Read more >
Hey guys! This is a post where I'll be telling ya'll about things to note while creating songs for your bands (Not idols!).
- While making music for a battle, make sure it's peppy enough. I would play the music during a battle to see how it sounds. You know, turn the Switch volume to 0, but blast your own music, see how it fits.
- Also, one thing I noticed is that there's no Solo battle music, so make sure every band member gets their part.
- Turf War music lasts 1 minute, and Ranked music can either be loops or a remix of Turf War, or an entirely different thing
- If your band has a lot of music, I would make a Now or Never cover.
- There's also at least a few seconds of intro in every song, I've noticed.
Anddddddd that's it!
Don't be a fool, stay cool!…

There are design patterns in canon Splatoon idols that you can apply to your idols:
- Reflecting beauty marks. This one is the most common. The Squid Sisters have beauty marks near their eyelids while Off the Hook has them under their lips.
- Pun names that associate with each other (Callie + Marie = Calamari / Pearl + Marina (Synonym for Harbor) = Pearl Harbor)
- Matching gloves. Use any kind of gloves or hand/arm accessory that can match your idols' aesthetic! Be creative!
- Tsurime/ Tareme eyes . Only the Squid Sisters have these, however. It's to show their contrasting personalities.
- Symbols. Off the Hook have their own saymbols (Pearl's X-symbol and Marina's infinity symbol) on their eyes, clothing, and other stuff.
- Tights with their main ink color…
