Octoprism is a fanmade idol duo based on the game Splatoon. The idols were created and voiced by Caitlin Koi. They host the news and announce Splatfests in Octopia Tower.
Bo and Raina are both Octolings.
Appearance
Bo
Bo is a 20 year old, 5'0" (1.5m) Dumbo octopus octoling (a.k.a. flapjack or umbrella octopus). Her hair's base colour is black, with rings and tips tinted with her ink colour (naturally turquoise). She has four main tentacles that reach her chin, the two frontmost framing her face, and four small nubs at the nape of her neck. Her deep green eyebrows are covered by straight cut bangs, split with two notches. A pink headband is held in place behind two suction cups. Separating her from many octolings are two fin appendages on either side of her head, characteristic of her Grimpoteuthis ancestry.
Her skin is a light cream color, cheeks dusted with freckles which she covers on air with pink and blue glitter. She has wide round eyes with pink-tinted eyelashes, her irises the same bright fuchsia contrasting with turquoise, horizontal octopus pupils. Her top row of teeth have a beak-like central fang, and two fangs on the bottom row.

Raina
Raina is a 22 year old, 5'7" (1.7m) blanket octopus octoling, specifically the rare rainbow blanket variety. Her hair is a pastel combination of pink, purple, blue and lime green. Two wavy tentacles wiggle down past her ears, and two curved, rounded tentacles sweep down the sides of her head. A long cape flows from the nape of her neck, indicative of her Tremoctopus ancestry. Her bangs are styled the same as Bo's with two notches, though cut slightly higher showing her brown dot eyebrows.
Her skin is a light brown with a purple undertone, green and blue stars painted on her right cheek. She has hooded eyes with dark maroon eyelids, her irises a deep blue with pink pupils in the shape of four-petaled jungle geraniums. Her top row of teeth have two fangs, with the beak-like center fang on the bottom row.
Her natural ink colour is purple. Due to her rare genetics that give her rainbow hair, when her ink color changes for events such as Splatfests her hair will have complementing hues.

History
Before the turn of 12,000, there was a vicious battle only known now as the Forgotten War. As a symbol of solidarity against the senseless destruction, Octarian defectors set out to create their own paradise of peace in the no man's land left wasted by war. Without the shackles of authoritarian rule, Octarian technology was able to flourish into a neon metropolis dubbed Octopia, a place for all life to live in equality. Wanting to solidify Octopia as a top tourist spot, city officials commissioned Splatfest stadiums to appeal to the youth. A place once ravaged by war now hosting mock wars in a massive domed atrium, Octopia Galleria, complete with arcades, gacha machines, snack courts and venues for music festivals.
The pillar of the city's capital is Octopia Tower, a radio mast powered by the Great Zapkoi Fish where Octopia News is filmed and broadcast from, owned by record label Seahound Sounds. When the higher ups started looking for young talent to be Octopia's first idols and anchor the news station, Raina was a top candidate as a star that came from a small impoverished island, exemplifying that anyone can make it in Octopia. When they reached out, Raina refused to sign any contracts unless her friend Bo could be her co-star, the two having collaborated on music for several years at that point. Raina gave them an ultimatum, sign both of them to the contract, or neither.
Personalities
Bo Dumboko
Bo was born in Octopia during the height of its prosperity, second child to an older sister, Moira. While quite extroverted, Octopia's booming population at the time caused her side of the city to be quite claustrophobic. Even the everyday foot traffic and white noise outside her window was unnerving. Rather than facing the herds of busy pedestrians, she chose to seclude herself in her room where she found a passion for music through her computer. Synthesizers were her instrument of choice, after getting a start with a free chiptunes software. Her biggest inspirations are Chirpy Chips/ABXY and Dedf1sh, who's posters are hung on her wall.
Despite her distress with large groups of people, she maintains a passionate and bubbly personality. However, this anxiety is the reason Octoprism has yet to perform live for an audience, preferring to stay on the video route and connect with Octopia through digital means. While in front of a camera, she's still not entirely sure what to do. Raina has told her to just "be yourself, but flashier" resulting in her rather awkward standard pose she assumes while on Octopia News. Raina doesn't have the heart to tell her it looks strange. She is learning how to dance, but struggles to perform any complicated choreography.
Bo is most calm and composed while sitting in her bedroom composing music. At a younger age all she had was her laptop and chiptune freeware, but since joining Octoprism she's had the budget for professional equipment.

Raina was born an only child in a small village on Palawari Island. Her childhood was spent doing domestic duties, singing and dancing to pass the time. Her parents were less than enthusiastic about her passions at first, only letting her enter a local talent competition after a great deal of begging. At the time of the talent show a film crew was on site to make a documentary about the island and captured Raina's performance. After this debut, it only took a few years until Raina was thrust into the spotlight in various televised competitions, pressured by her once dubious parents to succeed and bring in enough competition earnings to rise above their humble lifestyle. With enough money, the family eventually moved to Octopia for a better life.
Being a performer her entire life, Raina exudes confidence. However, having been raised by parents devoid of affection and only validated through monetary success, she doesn't much care for people but instead the praise they lavish her with. She remains outwardly humble, but relishes in the attention. While searching her name on the Octonet in vain attempts for more validation, she found a music forum post that peaked her interest. Someone had created a remixed chiptune cover of a winning song she had written for a competition. Impressed by the level of skill, she delved into their profile and found Bo behind the account. Bo was star struck after being contacted, and over their correspondence they grew a special connection.
While Raina ribs on Bo and teases her frequently on air, growing her friendly rivalry with each new episode (even to the point of splatting her), deep down Raina would turn that Splatling on anyone who tried to harm Bo.

Trivia
- Their names "Raina" and "Bo" is a portmanteau for "rainbow," alluding to their designs.
- This ties into their duo name "Octoprism," as shining light through a prism produces a rainbow.
- In Filipino, "reyna" means "queen." The last name Ulaula is based on the Filipino words for rain cloud, "ulan ulap."
- Their Japanese names are "モンジ" and "虹" (Monji / Niji), taken straight from their species' Japanese names (Juumonjidako / Nijiirotako) (Contribution by Meringuepie)

- Blanket octopodes are known to detach their cape as a distraction when escaping from enemies. If Raina gets too scared, the back of her hair might sometimes fall off, though it regrows in 3 days.
- The most famous known sighting of the rainbow blanket octopus was found in the Philippines, inspiring Raina's tropical home. Palawari Island is itself a reference to Palawan Island off the west coast.
- Raina has been known to swear without thinking.
- Bo mains Brushes, while Raina mains Splatlings.
- Bo doesn't like getting up close to people, but she has bad aim and Splatlings are too heavy for her. Bo most often mains the Octobrush Nouveau, since Octobrushes have the most range, it uses Tenta Missiles, and beacons, all very distant tools.
- Raina uses Splatlings not because she is shy, but because as a child she would often deal with crowds and interviewers swamping her. She always wished she could just pull out a Splatling and mow them down. Her main is the Hydra.
- Raina loves to wear beautiful dresses, but Bo prefers casual clothing. She only wears the elaborate costumes as a part of her contract with Octopia News.
