Mimic (sometimes Mimic and Co.) is a duo of musicians created by FearlessMist. Despite being named for its DJ Mimic, the band is comprised of multiple people, normally the duo of Mimic and Mantle.

They specialize in various types of electronic music, and their style has been described as a cross of Dedf1sh and normal Inkling music. Most of their songs, however, are covers.

Their music is popular among Octolings who have escaped Kamabo Co. and the Deepsea Metro, being themed after Mimic and their other Octarian friends' struggles while in the depths, and thoughts after having escaped to the surface. Inklings don't often understand the meaning of their music, though much of their songs are sung in Inkling (others being in Octarian, Mimic's first language). Their songs often cover dark topics.

Appearance

Mimic

Mimic is an 18-year-old Octoling. They are 5'0" in height. Their hair is a dark indigo shade close to blue that fades to a dull lime green. They have three primary suction cups on their hair, one in the middle, and two tentacles drape down their shoulders. The back of their hair feature a few tentacles that come down to their collar.

Mimic's eyes are the common eyes of sanitized Octarians, completely black eye whites and pupils surrounded by a glowing cyan iris. Their eye markings are that of the male playable Octoling.

Mimic's skintone is the best reveal of their sanitization, being a pale green color. The blush around their nose and elbows are a darker shade of this same color, and their fingers fade to indigo blue. Their nails are sharpened, becoming claws.

Mimic's default ink color is a dark indigo purple-blue, though more uncommonly it will be the basic sanitization gel. During Splatfests, the green portion of their tentacles changes color according to their team, and so do the tips of their fingers.

Mimic's normal gear include the Painter's Mask, Takoroka Nylon Vintage, and Neon Sea Slugs. Occasionally, parts of this outfit will be swapped for a piece of the Null Armor Replica set, normally their shoes.

Mantle

Mantle Rei is an 18-year-old Inkling who is 5'8" in height. Her hair is shaved to one side akin to the Wave hairstyle and is a bright yellow that fades to orange-yellow.

Mantle's eyes a very light gray, bordering on white. Her skintone is very pale, and her right ear is notched.

Mantle's default ink color is yellow. During Splatfests, her entire hair changes color, and normally her outfit will be changed to reflect her team's colors.

Mantle's normal gear includes the Kyonshi Hat, Eggplant Mountain Coat, and Honey & Orange Squidkid Vs. She frequently swaps her headgear for other mask-type items, normally the Gas Mask.

History

Mimic and Mantle's histories are both relatively unknown.

Mimic's first memory was of waking up in Kamabo Co., Octo Canyon's underground testing facility. Sometime after they had been sanitized, they heard the Calamari Inkantation, breaking them free of their mind control. Driven by Dedf1sh's music and the Calamari Inkantation, Mimic vouched not to take the Deepsea Metro to escape, but rather find a way out on their own. They succeeded after 2 or so years, though barely, being found by Mantle near the exit of the Metro unconscious.

Mantle rescued and took care of Mimic after their escape. She introduced them to Inkopolis, and Mantle describes Mimic as her first-ever close friend. Mimic took to coping with the trauma caused by their years in Kamabo by creating music, later lassoing in Mantle to be their drummer, and gaining new friends along the way to assist.

Mimic states that they never remembered their original name or gender after their sanitization, so they took up the name Mimic as their favorite of Mantle's suggestions.

Mimic's debut album Sanitized was an instant hit, and allowed Mimic to gain a rapid following.

Mimic and Mantle live happily in Inkopolis, now dating one another.

Personality

Mimic

Mimic's on-stage persona and off-stage actuality are often vastly different. Mimic often acts in a more aggressive or stoic manner on-stage, closer to the personality of a sanitized Octoling in Kamabo's army. Mimic, in reality, is very sweet and cheery. Their energy is boundless and they enjoy talking. Their love for socialization makes them a good counterpart and partner to Mantle, who is semi-mute.

That isn't to say Mimic is all happy-go-lucky. They struggle very badly with trauma leftover from their sanitization and are often depressed. They're incredibly smart and know the ins and out of Kamabo Co. and the Deepsea Metro, often being a guide for surface dwellers on explorations into the depths.

The Kamabo Splat Roller, Mimic's primary weapon

Many of their lost and hazy memories are related to Kamabo Co., especially the sanitization process, resulting in them often collecting what Kamabo-related items they can get their hands on. Mimic knows Kamabo the same way a Tentatek fan would know Tentatek. Mimic is also rather attached to medical subjects.

Mimic mains rollers, specifically wielding the rarer Kamabo Splat Roller. Their secondaries include the Soda Slosher and the Ballpoint Splatling. They tend to choose weapons for their appearance over their stats.

Mantle

Mantle is semi-mute, causing her to have an air of mystery surrounding her. She doesn't sing as much as Mimic or the occasional partners of their band do. Mantle is very stoic and their default expression can often be interpreted as a glare.

Mantle is smarter than the average Inkling, knowing of the Octolings' awakenings very early on. She expresses that she doesn't get along well with her own species most of the time, and that she much prefers the company of Octolings. It's no wonder she gets along with Mimic and the other members of their band so well.

Mantle also mains rollers, preferring the Kensa Splat Roller, the Carbon Roller Deco, and the Flingza Roller. Her favorite non-roller weapons are Dualies. She is a big fan of Toni Kensa.

Every now and again, the band will include one of their close friends to be a singer for a certain set of songs, and even be an inspiration for a song. Mantle used to be a side member until she fully joined the band. The inclusion of other members is where the band name Mimic became Mimic and Co.

Juno

Juno is an Octoling owned by AkidaElemental. There are several songs he does with Mimic where he is the lead singer.

Juno is rarer to see than Beak on stage, due to his limited availability. He acts rather shy, though seems comfortable around Mimic. He is an escapee from the Octarian Army.

Beak Hinode

Beak Hinode is an Octoling owned by crisp33l. She normally sings in lead alongside Mimic.

Beak is normally more accessible to the band than Juno is, so she is more common to see on stage. She is also an escapee from the Octarian Army. She is also rather stoic and quiet.

Jack Magnapinna is a semi-sanitized Inkling owned by crisp33l. She is incredibly rare to see on stage, only having one or two songs with Mimic in total.

• Mantle's full name is Mantle Rei. Her nickname is "Manta".
  • Her nickname creates the pun "manta ray".
    • Manta rays are considered the smartest of the ray species, which references that Mantle is smarter than many of her Inkling peers.
