Morning Star is the upcoming idol duo of Inkopolis Resort consisting of members Akari, an Inkling and jellyfish hybrid; Hanna, a sea slug; and Sebbie, a little nudibranch. They're made by Hazzyspad_ on Twitter.
Their music mainly consists of electro swing, but they have been known for stepping into different genres in a few of their songs.
History[]
Akari grew up in a fashion-oriented family. She was the daughter of a famous Inkling fashion designer and a Blue-button jellyfish fashion model. Because of her parents, she was very into fashion at a young age. Into her mid-teens, however, she began to found a new interest in the music industry (specifically electronic music), so she ditched fashion designing in order to enroll in Whalesong College, one of Inkopolis' most famous music universities.
Meanwhile, Hanna was a shy slug living a quiet life in the suburbs with her family. As a child, she admired classical and swing music, and loved to sing as well. When she was 15, she found out about Ink Theory and decided to make a little cover of Broken Coral, one of Ink Theory's iconic songs. The performance went viral on the internet, and got Ink Theory's acknowledgment. As a result, Hanna was funded with a scholarship from Whalesong College, and her road to stardom finally began.
Being the daughter of two very famous people in the fashion industry, Akari was noticed all the time in Whalesong. Hanna didn’t pay too close attention to pop culture and such, and didn’t even know about Akari’s fashion famous family. They would chat at the school cafe often, as it was nice for Akari to talk to someone who didn’t recognize her right away for once. They talked at the school cafe during lunch and slowly became close friends over time, sharing each other's music projects like lyrics, melodies, etc. Akari had the bright idea one day to remix one of Hanna’s songs one day, thinking it would be a fun experiment. Hanna ended up loving it, claiming it to be the “missing rhythm” she needed all that time. Every day, they'd make songs together after school that were a good mix of swing and electronic music. they weren’t the first ones to come up with electro swing, but they definitely made it insanely popular. Next thing they knew, Hanna and Akari formed into the beloved duo Morning Star.
Other than the few gigs they’ve done early in their fame, the electro swing duo mainly stayed at home, making music and hanging out. When news spread that a new resort was opening soon, many Morning Star fans knew that they’d be next up as the new newscaster duo. Even though the two knew it would happen as well, they were still shocked to receive a letter from the resort asking them to announce the stages, splatfests, and other newsworthy things. They happily accepted the offer and now live their life in the resort, continuing to make themselves known through their music.

Appearance[]
Akari is a 22 year old jellyfish inkling hybrid, from the species porpita porpita, and todarodes pacificus (Blue button jelly/japanese flying squid). She fashions seven long jelly-like strands of dark blue translucent tentacles, stopping just above the hip, along with two strands that were cut shorter on the front to act as bangs. All of the tentacle strands end in a sunflower yellow color. Her skin is a light tan color, the tips of her rounded fin-like ears colored a neon yellow.
She has a round face, with a small nose that ends in a soft point and a beauty mark on her left cheek. Her wide eyes are framed by dark grey-brown eyelashes and large round navy eyebrows. Her irises are a blue-violet color that fades into a bright sky blue, her moon shaped irises a pastel gold color. She has a large beak-like center tooth on her top row of teeth, along with a smaller fang to the right of the bottom row.
Personality []
Much like her aggressively hyper personality on camera, Akari’s a very chipper squid in person. She’s always the life of the party, seeming very approachable at first glance but if you start off on the wrong foot with her you’re bound to see her unpleasant side. Unlike Hanna, she’s ill-tempered and speaks her mind, no matter how harsh her mind is being. She’s very protective of Hanna, making it hard for fans to approach them in public. However, if someone she’s fond of approaches, Akari’s mood is completely different. She becomes as chipper as she is on tv, and she’s great at conversation. Luckily her unpleasant side doesn’t show frequently, though her impatience serves as a reminder of it’s presence.

Hanna is a small 26 year old sea bunny of the species jorunna funebris (dotted nudibranch). Her hair is a slightly off-white color, fading to a light cyan color and topped with neatly scattered dark teal spots, styled in a wavy bob look with the left side of her face covered. It’s edged with a single thick and wavy outline of yellow. The rhinophores sit on top of her head like ears, each outlined with dark teal frills and decorated with the same gradient and spots like the hair. Her skin is a very light cream color, with a flushed salmon color naturally brushed on her face, joints, and stomach.
She has a very soft rounded square face shape, with very large downtilted eyes surrounded by thick dark teal eyelashes and grey jellybean shaped eyebrows. Her irises are a sunset type gradient with the colors purple, pink, and a hint of marigold at the end of the gradient. There’s a darker ring around the edge of the iris with many pastel pink lines inside, much like Flow’s eyes. Her mouth has a soft dip on her upper lip.
Personality []
Hanna is a very soft and caring girl at heart, putting everyone before herself. Her caring nature tends to be a problem in turf battles and salmon run, as she doesn't have the heart to splat a single soul. She'll go out of her way to make people happy, doing whatever she can to cheer people up. She's not one to be easily upset, but if she does get upset it's not unusual to find her sulking or noticeably silent. She also tends to be very clueless and isn't able to pick up hints well, taking the majority of things too literally. She also has a loud energetic side, mainly only coming out during Splatfests or topics she's passionate about.
Sebbie[]
Appearance[]
A yellow-orange nudibranch, it is uncertain what his age is. He’s very small (about half a foot tall), and glittery shimmer all over his body. He has two ear like appendages on the top of his head and a few on his rear that resembles a rabbit’s tail.
Personality[]
Sebbie likes to hang around Morning Star's studio often, or on top of Hanna's head when they're off to explore the resort. There is not much information on him, but Hanna found him while he was chilling by a shop in Inkopolis and declared Sebbie as her best friend, and that is how they got together. He's not much of a talker, but when he does speak, it's usually to become the voice of reason. He enjoys seeing people's shock from discovering his ability to speak aswell.

- Hanna's Japanese name is Myu Tenshi (credits to Meringuepie)
- Akari’s Japanese name is Aoi Surume (credits to Meringuepie)
- Hanna’s name is based on the Japanese word 花(Hana), meaning flower, referring to her delicate and colorful personality. Akari’s name is of japanese origin, meaning light/bright, referring to her beaming personality.
- Together, their names roughly make the word "sunflower"
- It’s widely believed that Hanna has a crush on Mr. Grizz
- This is supported by the fact that when questioned about it by Akari after her praising of him one day on tv, she didn’t respond
